Safe in Kuala Lumpur
All within the past 4 days in the South Pacific/Asia – Earthquake in New Zealand, 2 in Indonesia, Tsunami in Samoa & Tonga, Typhoon Ketsana in the Philippines & Vietnam & another to hit Phillipines in 48hrs then onwards to China. Needless to say, we are blessed to be safe after seeing all the destruction and sadness around us.
We arrived in Kuala Lumpur with no problems – just lack of sleep. It was really only upon arrival, did we realize all that Mother Nature was up to. KL is a very congested city. It has multiple transportation modes but nothing is integrated, so you need to buy separate tickets to get from one side of the city to the other on buses, monorails, trains, etc. We found the hop-on-hop-off Tourist Bus was the best way to get around. We visited the world’s largest free-flight bird aviary where we saw the most bizarre birds. We were too late to get tickets to go up the famous Petronas Towers but took our photos from outside. The shopping wasn’t what we had expected – definitely multiple malls, but the prices are on par with Canada so no real deals to be had. That is unless you want “fakes” which are plentiful at cheap prices on every street corner – especially Chinatown. Food is exactly what we expected – really, really good and very cheap.
With quick searches on the weather situation, we are continuing with our plan to Hanoi, Vietnam. The typhoon hit central Vietnam, so we are hoping all is good up north. We will soon see.

If you look hard enough I am sure that you will find a pro deal, maybe a new coat or something. We are glad you are safe, keep up with your updates.
